About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The topics covered by the journal are wide, MATERIALS AND DEVICES aims at publishing papers on :
- all aspects related to materials, namely according to their chemical formula (oxides, fluorides, carbon compounds, …, organic, inorganic), to their physical properties (conductors, super-conductors, semi-conductors, insulators, dielectrics,...), to their nature (crystalline or amorphous materials, liquid crystals, modulated systems, aperiodic materials, nanomaterials and nanostructured materials)… or environmental type (ecomaterials), or according to some specific applications. Papers on biomaterials, geomaterials, archeomaterials or on studies of ancient materials are also welcome. A particular attention is also paid on environmental studies related with materials. Authors are also encouraged to submit papers on theoretical studies applied to materials, including pure mathematical approaches, physical approaches, models, numerical simulations, etc.
- devices in a wide sense.  concerning Devices, the scope is restricted to those integrating particular materials (for instance memories based on some specific magnetic materials) or category of materials. Papers on all types of such devices are welcome.

Peer Review Process

Materials and Devices is exempt of any censorship. We certify that all submitted articles will be forwarded to reviewers, except if the manuscript does not comply with the rules edicted by the journal. Papers will be evaluated by reviewers from a strict scientific point of view. This differentiates MD from some commercial journals which sort submitted works according to non scientific criteria in order to mechanically increase their impact factor.

Evaluation  peer-reviewing : After reception, if the paper is suitable for the journal, the manuscript is sent up to three reviewers for evaluation. In case of divergent opinions of the first two reviewers, the editor in chief sends the paper to a third reviewer and then gives a final decision based on all reports. Reviewers are asked to reply within three weeks to warranty a fast publication process.

Publication Frequency

In order to insure a fast publication, accepted papers are published as soon as they are ready, by adding them to the "current" volume's Table of Contents.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

The journal also encourages self-archiving (Linked In, Research Gate, Academia, ORCID, institutions websites) and availability in open repositories (ArXiV, HAL, etc) of submitted papers. After acceptance in Materials and Devices, authors are asked to inform in these sites about the reference of their article in the journal, or put in line the reprint provided by the journal.

The journal doesn't have any submission or  publications fees

Sources of Support

The journal Materials and Devices, and actions of Collaborating Academics, are made possible thanks to volunteering.

Journal History

After discussions that took place in 2014, the NGO Collaborating Academics decided in 2015 to launch a new journal devoted to all aspects on materials, including related devices. The journal should be free of charge and open access, in the spirit of Open Science concepts.

One of our objectives is to make scientific knowledge available for all, and favour and develop international collaborations in materials science, in particular with an objective of sustainable development and environment preservation.
